Historic Center

The main street in Santa Marta's downtown area is Carrera 5, between 22nd and 12th Streets. Every Colombian city has a downtown area. In the downtown area, you'll find everything you could want at local prices, from sewing machines, clothing, shoes, jewelry, appliances, technology, handbags, perfumes, kitchen utensils, hardware, paint, lighting, and food. Services are also available, from repairs to quality and affordable health clinics. Parque de Los Novios/ Historic Center

Located two long blocks from Carrera 5 toward the ocean is the Historic Center, and west of Carrera 3 is the popular Parque de Los Novios. The Historic Center occupies several blocks between 18th and 16th Streets and Carreras 3 and 4.

Parque de los Novios, with its white kiosk, is a popular spot for tourists, with music, vendors, and nightlife. It also houses a statue of military and political leader Francisco de Paula Santander. Many people are unaware that the park has another name: Parque Santander.

A taxi usually takes visitors to the entrance of Parque de Los Novios. From there, it's a pleasant way to spend an afternoon walking the few blocks or having a drink or meal at one of the bars or restaurants. There's a wide variety of restaurants: Mexican, Colombian, steakhouses, Mediterranean, sushi, pizza, burgers, and much more. The Historic Center is also known for its fantastic nightlife, with a variety of clubs, from sports bars and shot bars to air-conditioned indoor venues and rooftop discos with DJs or live music.

It's worth noting that, as in similar places in other cities, there are many opportunities for pickpockets. Always carry your phone and wallet. Also, when paying, read the receipt and make sure the drinks listed on the bill reflect what you ordered.
